Cool Tounge Weight

Hey y'all !
ok, I put the cart before the horse. Im waiting on a new 05 Sprinter, 300fkms to come in from the factory. Its listed with a tounge weight of 1080lbs. I have a Dodge 2500 deisel with all the heavy tow set up, low rear end gear ratio, HD suspension, etc... the hitch located under the bumper is rated at 10,000... with a 1000 hitch weight. will a weight distribution and sway bar set up cure my delima? Oscar

Not really..... The hitch already assumes you are using a WD setup to get the 1000/10000 rating. The same hitch is probably only rated for 500/5000 when you just plunk the tongue on the trailer and go.

So your #1080 "listed tongue weight" will be in the neighborhood of around #1200 when it's all said and done... Sounds like you should be looking for a new hitch with ratings over #1200 with WD setup.....

Good luck!

The listed tongue weight is never what it actually weighs. Once you have loaded the trailer, put in LP gas, etc., the tongue weight will probably increase by 300-400 lbs. You will need to weight the trailer to get an accurate weight. You would be better off installing a heavier duty aftermarket hitch receiver, one with a capability of 1400 lbs. Then get a heavier duty weight distributing hitch. You have enough truck but the receiver may not be adequate.

1,000 lbs is with the distribution set-up. That's a class 4 hitch.

There is a way you can measure tounge weight with a formula and a bathroom scale.

Check it on here...
